Why Spending Time With Your Family is Important to Your Creative Process

Most working women face the constant battle of trying to find the balance between work, family, and self-care. This weekend I had the opportunity to spend some much needed time with my siblings and cousin. Living in different states makes it difficult for me to spend time with my family as much as I would like, but this weekend really opened my eyes to the effect that spending time with my family has on my creative process.

1. Family time is therapeutic

Family time offers you a safe space to laugh, trash talk, and loosen up. In other spaces you wear many hats and are often held to a certain standard that is nothing short of perfection. When in the company of your family you are free to exist, without the burdening thoughts of  expectation or judgement.

2. Family time reminds you of your "why"

Your family has witnessed your growth. They have watched you transition from amateur to professional, and in exchanging fond memories you remember why you started your journey in the first place.

3. Family time can spark new ideas

When you are feeling relaxed and you are in a setting that is natural to you, your creativity flares. Sharing love and words of encouragement can result in an aha moment that could take your career to the next level
